Festival of Mallus

Yeah that's right! Onam was here and now it's gone. The attraction of Onam is seemingly gone from most families I know, including my large extention of a family (grandmother, uncles, aunts, cousins, cousins' spouses, their dogs & cats). I used to remember a time, not too long ago, when Onam meant something. Now it's an excuse to stay home from work!
Well for most people. I opted to be at the office on Onam, letting other collegues who still actually get together with their relatives and partake in a Sadhya!

What I really like about Onam is that it isn't anything about a "god". Well Vamanan is there ..... but Onam is really about a man - a HUMAN BEING! How he was a beloved king and how much he loved his subjects in return. His last wish was to be able to come back once a year and visit his people and see how they are doing. The festival is a celebration about that. Not so ego-maniac, sexually perverted, macho "God" who comes to the earth and lives among us humans and tries to dazzle us with his powers (sarcasm detected). Give me a break!
And that is why I like Onam.
